Gourd art is passed on from generation to generation and Juan?s family can account for at least 6 generations of continuing tradition. The gourds were originally used as ornate water vessels for ceremonial offerings to the Incas. The family keeps their ancient Incan culture alive and Juan?s wife still dresses in full traditional attire with long fluffy skirts called ?polleras.?
